It's March Metal Madness 2016, and this year we're out to determine Best Metal Song of the 21st Century. The Headbanger Region is full of great matchups, and this Round 1 features Tool's "Schism" vs. Gojira's "L'enfant Sauvage."

Tool's "Schism" features one of the most memorable bass lines to ever take the lead on a song. The track dominated airwaves when the quartet unleashed the mighty Lateralus. Hypnotic vocals put the listener in a trance as the music drives home the repetition, furthering the trance-like state. Arresting rhythms jar the listener in one of the most powerful songs to grace the new millennium.

Gojira have their work cut out for them going against Tool and their legion of diehard followers, but the French outfit cannot be counted out. They released one of the most devastating albums in the modern age with L'enfant Sauvage and the title track could pose a big challenge for Tool. Pummeling rhythms and accented drumming set the stage for a tug of war between Gojira's deft balance between ethereal and punishing.

So which song will move on to Round 2 of March Metal Madness 2016? Listen to both tracks and vote for either Tool's "Schism" or Gojira's "L'enfant Sauvage" as the Best Metal Song of the 21st Century in the poll below!
