Although the dirt and grit and bands were immensely entertaining on the side stages, fans who trekked out to this year’s Mayhem Festival were in for a treat over on the main stage. Production was complete with loads of smoke and pyro as the headliners Rob Zombie and Five Finger Death Punch both put on incredible shows.

Zombie has done his share of directing movies but the command he has onstage is like none other. The work, detail and sheer energy that goes into his set are just a few of the reasons why Rob Zombie and his crew are headlining this year’s Mayhem Festival. Zombie played favorites like ‘Living Dead Girl’ and ‘Superbeast’ along with new tunes ‘Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown’ and the set-opener ‘Teenage Nosferatu P–sy.’ He also worked in White Zombie classics like ‘More Human Than Human’ and ‘Thunderkiss ’65.’

Speaking of sheer energy, when Five Finger Death Punch come to town, there’s bound to be a whole lot of sweat and force during their performance. The band performed their new single ‘Lift Me Up’ and favorites like ‘Never Enough’ and ‘White Knuckles.’ It’s safe to say that Death Punch fans went home with aching muscles and sore vocal cords by the end of the set.

The Georgia boys of Mastodon rocked the Comcast Theater and brought a different vibe to the main stage. From the reaction of the crowd, it was easy to see that the band’s sludge metal groove is undeniably contagious.

And the main-stage opener Amon Amarth completely obliterated the main stage. What else would you expect from the Viking metalers? Their stage setup features a massive boat with the bow in the shape of a large dragon, which happens to breathe smoke. The talented Swedish group definitely left their mark on the Mayhem crowd.
