There was a noticeable space in the festival season this past year as Heavy Montreal went on hiatus, but hard rocking fans will once again be able to enjoy the rite of summer passage north of the U.S. border as organizers have revealed that Heavy Montreal will return in 2018.

The festival will take over Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal July 28 and 29, with Heavy in the City slated for July 27 to kick things off. For the ninth edition of the festival, fans will be invited to the temporary new festival grounds on ile Notre-Dame, just steps away from the Jean-Drapeau metro station. Meanwhile, the city of Montreal is expected to complete renovations of ile Saint-Helene in time for the 2019 edition of the festival.

The lineup for the 2018 is still a work in progress with band names to be revealed at a later date, but for the rock and metal community, the news of the festival's return to the summer concert season is a welcome addition.

As organizers continue to work on the lineup for this year, they're also letting the fans have a say.
