Evil ran rampant in New York City on Saturday night (Apr. 19) as Behemoth, 1349, Goatwhore, Inquisition and Black Crown Initiate stormed the gates of Irving Plaza. With the Metal Alliance Tour in full effect and a sold-out crowd packing the venue, metalheads were in for a treat that would end in epic fashion.

Playing for nearly 90 minutes, Behemoth headlined the night and crushed through a 13-song set that opened with 'Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel' from the band's latest studio album, 'The Satanist.' As if that wasn't enough to stir the crowd into a frenzy, frontman Nergal and the rest of the band jumped headfirst into another track from 'The Satanist,' the powerful and frightening 'Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer.' As the song neared its finale, the fans were moshing and slamming so hard that a barricade actually collapsed and security had to rush in to put it back into place.

The career-spanning set continued as Behemoth tore through song after song, including 'Conquer All,' 'Christians to the Lions' and 'Chant for Eschaton 2000.' The night wrapped up with a memorable performance of the closing track on 'The Satanist,' 'O Father O Satan O Sun!' Halfway through the song, the lights went out and the crowd went crazy. When the lights came back, all four members were wearing demonic masks with huge horns that were reminiscent of the 'Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel' music video. Behemoth finished performing the music of the seven-minute song as a pre-recorded Nergal spoke the final words, "Cry aloud! Cry aloud! Whirl the Wheel, O my Father, O Satan, O Sun!"

A night with Behemoth would be enough to fulfill most fans' desires, but fortunately for the crowd, they got much, much more. Norway's 1349 put on a blistering set that included the New York City premiere of their brand new song, 'Slaves.' The metal was black and the metal was loud during their set and the crowd wouldn't have had it any other way.

Preceding 1349 were New Orleans' very own Goatwhore. Coming off of the success of 2012's 'Blood for the Master' -- and preparing for the July release of their next LP, 'Constricting Rage of the Merciless' -- Goatwhore were welcomed with loud cheers and ferocious headbanging. As 1349 did, Goatwhore introduced New York City to a new track entitled 'Baring Teeth for Revolt.'

Out of Colombia, the metal duo Inquisition made sure fans wouldn't forget who they were by keeping things simple: no breaks for chit-chat and non-stop rock. If the crowd wasn't aware of Inquisition before the night started, they surely left with a new band to add to their list of favorites. Opening the night were Pennsylvania's own Black Crown Initiate who set the stage for what would end up being a night full of hard, heavy and wickedly evil rock and roll.

The fourth annual Metal Alliance Tour wraps up on May 3 in Seattle. Get a list of remaining tour dates here.
