Body Count Unleash Video for ‘Raining Blood / Postmortem’ Slayer Medley
Body Count have just unleashed a new video for their cover of Slayer’s “Raining Blood.” Ice-T and the guys even give a little extra for thrash fans, amending the end of the track with another Reign in Blood classic, “Postmortem.”
The group has made an impact with cover songs before, jamming Jimi Hendrix’s classic “Hey Joe” on their 1994 Born Dead album and for the Stone Free covers compilation and more recently, they recorded a version of “Institutionalized” originally written and made famous by Suicidal Tendencies. Unlike “Institutionalized,” Ice-T chose to keep Slayer’s original lyrics for “Raining Blood,” but Body Count still put their own twist on the cut, recruiting bassist Vincent Price to sing the “Postmortem” section.
"I got this phone call from Ice-T at the same time he told me about trying to find people to be on this record. He goes, 'Vince, I want to cover 'Raining Blood,’” Price recalls. “I’m thinking, 'Wait a minute, 'Raining Blood' starts with the end of 'Postmortem'. I was, like, 'You know what? Let's put a twist on it — start our 'Raining Blood' and then end with 'Postmortem', which I do vocals on."
The new Body Count clip is no-frills, showcasing the band ripping the track in-studio. One little accent you’ll notice is a red tinge to the video, which is most noticeable during close-ups of the band members. Guitarist Ernie C. rips Slayer’s classic guitar solo with precision and feel. After all, Body Count was formed so Ice-T could give Ernie an outlet to slay on guitar, as the rapper-turned-metaller explains in the “Raining Blood” intro.
