Bruce Dickinson Interested in Iron Maiden Orchestral Adaptations
Can you imagine Iron Maiden's music played with an orchestra? Singer Bruce Dickinson can, and he revealed during a Q&A session at Dublin's National Stadium that he's had some talks about bringing the music to the stage with orchestral backing. However, he adds that it likely wouldn't be a Maiden show, but rather something of his own doing.
The impetus for the idea was Maiden's epic "Empire of the Clouds" opus that closes their The Book of Souls album. According to the U.K.'s Eonmusic, Dickinson told the audience that he was interested in bringing the song to the stage and that it could potentially lead to a full on orchestral show.
Dickinson stated that he had spoken with conductor Paul Mann while working with him on a 50th anniversary concert to celebrate the late Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord and the idea sprang from their discussion.
"We just very tentatively said, 'Wouldn’t it be great if we could do something that might involve some Maiden songs, but only Maiden songs that are really appropriate for doing [with] an orchestra?,'” recalled Dickinson, adding that "Empire of the Clouds" was one of the key ones. "You never know,” the singer added on the possibility of doing orchestral performances.
However, when asked if Iron Maiden would be playing with an orchestra, Dickinson emphatically stated "no," adding that any such project would come to fruition outside of the group.
Maiden have plenty of history still yet to celebrate, with the band's "Legacy of the Beast" tour continuing into 2020. Dates can be found here.
