Iron Maiden have released a new beer in the U.K. “Sun and Steel” marks the sixth beer released in their Trooper line. The pilsner-style beer is double fermented with lager and saké yeasts and is 4.8 percent ABV.

The beer is said to be the most complex beer made by the Robnisons Brewery and was crafted by frontman Bruce Dickinson, who partnered with George Yuse, the owner of the 300 year old Okunomatsu Saké Brewery in Fukushima, Japan. In the video below, Dickinson and Robinsons Brewery offer a closer look at their latest brew.

Watch as Dickinson unboxes the lager and crackis it open to take a taste. In the clip Dickinson says, “We wanted to do something a bit special so we decided to do something with Japanese saké yeast to add some extra aroma and flavor to a traditional pils. It is delicious and it looks pretty cool as well!” He opens up a beer, takes a sip and says, “That’s lovely… and just in time for summer.”

Prior to the beer’s release Dickinson explained that the saké infused lager was over two years in the making. He said, “The team at Robinsons have had to become mad scientists to make this work but the end result is a really unique hybrid beer that tastes fantastic. Trooper fans have been asking for a lager, and here it is.” For more about Iron Maiden's Trooper beer line click here.

“Sun and Steel” is a deep cut on Iron Maiden’s 1983 album Piece of Mind, which was released just over 36 years ago. The song was inspired by the life of Japanese samurai Miyamoto Musashi and the title was taken from Yukio Mishima’s 1968 essay, “Stil Life.”

Iron Maiden will kick off their summer tour on July 18 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Check out all their tour dates here.
