Actress Laverne Cox Apologizes for Failing to Mention Metallica While Introducing Grammy Performance With Lady Gaga
If you watched the Grammys last night, there's a lot to discuss regarding Metallica's performance with Lady Gaga. On "Music's Biggest Night," it was a particularly rough night for the metal legends, who didn't receive an award, endured a glaring technical issue while playing and were flat out forgotten when being introduced!
Actress Laverne Cox took the podium just prior to the joint appearance from Metallica and Lady Gaga as they prepared to run through the thrash vets' recent hit "Moth Into Flame." Explaining how all bands begin somewhere and that the greats usually begin in a garage, basement or empty warehouse and that a bit of that always stays with the good ones, Cox then said, "Eight-time Grammy winners and six-time Grammy award winner — Lady Gaga!," completely missing mention of Metallica's name in the intro.
She's since posted on Twitter to offer an apology to Metallica and their fans, seemingly unaware she even forgot to mention the name of the world's biggest metal act and featured Grammy performer. "I am so sorry to Metallica and all their fans. I am told I didn't say their names during the intro. Love you Metallica. You Rock," Cox said in the post (seen below).
Drummer Lars Ulrich spoke with Access Hollywood (video below) on Saturday (Feb. 11) about the performance with Gaga. "When we were done with our rehearsal yesterday, my manager came up and said, 'This may be the heaviest song that's ever been played at the Grammys ever' — even heavier than the last four of five times Metallica were there," he began. "So we're pretty psyched that we get… [Grammy Awards producer] Ken [Ehrlich] gives us carte blanche to go heavier and heavier each time."
Ulrich then lightly joked about enlisting the pop star as a band member, stating, "And now we've got a new lead singer — well, a new co-lead singer, is a better way of saying it — so we were talking earlier about maybe making her a permanent member of Metallica and being a five-piece from now on, so we'll see."
Metallica also announced a North American leg of their "WorldWired" tour, bringing Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat and Gojira along with them on select dates. See a list of stops here.
