Mastodon have responded to their Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for the song 'Curl of the Burl' from their album 'The Hunter.'

"We were so excited to find out that we've been nominated for a Grammy. It's a huge honor for our band, and we really appreciate the recognition."

The nod is band's second Grammy nomination. In 2006, Mastodon received a metal nomination for 'Colony o Birchmen' from the album 'Blood Mountain.' But the award went to Slayer, who won for 'Final Six' from the disc 'Christ Illusion.'

This year, Mastodon are up against equally stiff competition: Megadeth for 'Public Enemy No. 1," Dream Theater for 'On the Backs of Angels,' Foo Fighters for 'White Limo' and Sum 41 for 'Blood in my Eyes.'

The 54th annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on Feb. 12 and will be broadcast on CBS.
