In the last few years, there has been a lot of chatter about the idea of Zakk Wylde hopping on board a potential Pantera reunion tour with the band in place of the late "Dimebag" Darrell. And that talk recently reignited with Wylde joining Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown onstage for a performance of 'I'm Broken' at a recent show and Anselmo once again stating in an interview his enthusiasm for getting the band back together.

It all began a couple of years ago when Pantera / Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul told radio station 97.1 The Eagle Rocks that if anyone were to take over for Dimebag, it would be his good friend Zakk Wylde. “I mean, [Zakk] and my brother were so tight," said Paul. "If [a Pantera reformation] ever were to happen, [Zakk] would be the guy [to step in for Dimebag]. But I honestly think, out of respect for my brother, we should just leave the 14 amazing years Pantera had be."

After hearing that, Anselmo has pushed for a reunion in recent years. At the recent Rock on the Range festival where the Anselmo/Brown/Wylde collaboration took place, he told Fanpass's Matt Pinfield, "At the end of the day, there would have to be a meeting ... between Rex, Vince and I, and there would have to be a big-time understanding between the two of us [Vinnie and Philip] before anything happens at all. Otherwise I think … There is a great percentage of me that says, ‘This generation deserves it. Let’s do it.’ And then there’s a reservation in me that says, ‘You know what, man? Legacies get passed down. This, that, the other. Maybe we should leave it alone and just let it be part of lore and the history and whatnot.’”

He went on to add, “If there was ever a proper presentation, like, OK, Pantera is back together, Zakk’s on guitar, that would be a massive feeling. That would be outrageous. And I would go to war. I would be in the best shape possible.”

But even though Vinnie Paul seemingly championed Wylde a couple of years ago and Anselmo has offered his support for the idea, the drummer has been adamant about the band not reuniting. In a new interview with Revolver, Vinnie Paul stated, "If you had an ex-wife, and it was a pretty bitter split, you might not ever want to talk to her again. Who cares if everybody in the family and your friends want you to say hello again? It’s your choice whether you want to do it or not. And I think a lot of people are selfish. They say, ‘Oh, he oughta just kiss and make up with Phil and everything will be cool. And then they can go get Zakk Wylde and everything’s gonna be great.’ No, everything’s not gonna be great.”

Regardless of the positions of those involved, we'd like to get your take. Would you see a Pantera reunion tour if Zakk Wylde filled the vacant spot of the legendary "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott? Would it be a perfect celebration in honor of both Dimebag and the music of Pantera? Or is it sacrilegious to replace Dimebag in the legendary metal group? Tell us what you think in the poll below:
