Rockers React: Huntress Vocalist Jill Janus Dies
The news of the death of Huntress vocalist Jill Janus began to spread across the rock and metal industry Thursday afternoon (Aug. 16). In a statement, Janus' bandmates in Huntress revealed that the singer took her own life outside of Portland, Oregon.
Janus had spoken publicly about her battles with mental illness with an openness in hopes that she could help others dealing with similar issues to address and overcome their own issues.
Blake Meahl, the guitarist for Huntress, was among those posting about Jill's death, stating, "Jill Janus and I spent 9 years together creating a home, having a family and building our passion project Huntress. The devastation of knowing I will never see her again is the most gutting emotion I have ever experienced." Guitarist Eli Santana stated, "A few days ago, I told you I missed you and thanked you for always taking care of me and looking out for me. I hope you took that to heart. And I hope you’ve found peace."
A number of Jill's peers and cohorts also posted on social media sharing their thoughts about the death of the singer. Halestorm's Lzzy Hale, Judas Priest's Rob Halford, Jill's Starbreakers bandmate Nita Strauss, Motorhead's Phil Campbell, video director Phil Mucci and more have all weighed in with commentary. Check out the sampling of posts below and we'll continue to add as more tributes come in.
