Steve Vai, ‘Weeping China Doll’ – Exclusive Premiere From ‘Stillness in Motion’ DVD

It's time to get wowed once again by the guitar mastery of Steve Vai. The rocker is set to release a new concert collection, Stillness in Motion -- Vai Live in L.A., on April 7 and he's teaming up with Loudwire to offer an early look at one of the songs on the collection. Check out "Weeping China Doll" in the clip above.

The video features Vai in his element as he opens by setting a dark and ominous tone before the rest of his band -- a bassist, guitarist, drummer and harpist -- add to the musical soundscape that Vai is creating. As the song progresses, so does the nimble nature in which Vai attacks his instrument. Watch as his fingers glide across the neon green, yellow and mauve-hued designs on his fretboard.

Stillness in Motion was recorded back in October of 2012 at Los Angeles' Club Nokia as Vai brought some blistering licks to those in attendance. The collection is available as both a two-disc 22-track CD collection or as a double DVD, 27-song set, complete with a bunch of bonus features from the 'Story of Light' tour. Included is rehearsal and assorted tour footage from around the world.

"To say that this tour was a powerful life experience would be like saying the sun is hot," states Vai about the experience that's encompassed in this collection. The Stillness in Motion disc is available for pre-order here, while the DVD is available at this location.

In other Steve Vai news, the guitar great has announced plans for his second Vai Academy. The ultimate guitar experience will take place between Aug. 2-6 at The Arrabelle at Vail Square in Vail, Colo. Attendees will spend four days and nights discovering the intricacies of guitar in clinics, workshops and jams from Vai and his fellow instructors Eric Johnson and Sonny Landreth.
