Vans to Put Out David Bowie Sneakers
Shortly after the release of their Led Zeppelin sneakers, Vans are releasing a David Bowie themed line as well. There are four different designs, each inspired by a different album theme.
The Sk8-Hi are black and white checkered high tops with "Bowie" written in red on the side on top of a lightning bolt. These are based on Ziggy Stardust. The white Old Skool model also features a lightning bolt, but is representative of Aladdin Sane. The Space Oddity sneakers are blue and black with polka dots, and the Hunky Dory Slip-Ons feature a similar shade of yellow to that album. See an image below.
All four sneakers will be on sale starting sometime at the beginning of April, with various sources stating either the fourth or the fifth. In addition to Bowie and Led Zeppelin, Vans has also partnered with KISS, Iron Maiden, Slayer and other bands for a unique sneaker line.
A Bowie movie is in the works as well. Earlier this year it was announced that Johnny Flynn would be portraying Bowie in the film, Stardust. Bowie's son Duncan Jones is the filmmaker, which will not include any of his father's music.
The producers made a statement about the movie, affirming that it will not be a biopic, like the recent films Bohemian Rhapsody about Queen and The Dirt about Motley Crue. “It is a moment in time film at a turning point in David’s life, and is not reliant on Bowie’s music,” they said. “Much like ‘Nowhere Boy’ for Lennon, or ‘Control’ for Joy Division, the production uses period music and songs that Bowie covered, but not his original tracks.”
