AC/DC’s Cliff Williams: Guitarists Angus + Malcolm Young Working on Material for Next Album
In a new interview, AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams offers an update on new AC/DC material. While the band has not hit the studio yet, Williams says the group's legendary guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young are currently crafting new songs for the band's next album.
AC/DC's latest full-length album, 'Black Ice,' was released in 2008, receiving favorable reviews from critics and fans. Followers of the Australian legends have been craving a new album, and although no official plans have been made, it's definitely a good sign that Angus and Malcolm Young have kept their guitars strapped on.
"[There is] nothing in the works right now [as far as recording]," Williams tells BackstageAxxess.com (watch below). "We're still getting over the last tour, so we're just hanging out and doing stuff. The guys [guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young] are writing material and when they've got some stuff together, they'll give us a holler."
Williams adds, "[Angus and Malcolm] get a bunch of ideas together. Some are more together than others — and then we'll all hit the studio or a little rehearsal room and we'll kick it around with a producer. And then we get in a studio and record, and that's kind of how it runs. The guys, I'm sure, are putting their time in [writing material for the new album] — Malcolm and Angus — but they're not ready for [the rest of the band to get involved] yet."
In a 2012 interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Malcolm Young spoke a bit on his composing sessions. "I've been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band," he says. "We are still working. But we had a long rest between 'Stiff Upper Lip' and 'Black Ice', so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more."
