Atreyu Celebrate ‘A Death-Grip on Yesterday’ Album With 10th Anniversary Tour
Time flies! Just over a decade ago, Atreyu were a SoCal band still trying to make their name after a pair of albums put them on the radar of many hard rock and metal fans. But in 2006, they issued their third disc, A Death-Grip on Yesterday, and the album cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, reaching new heights for the band. Flash forward to 2016 and the album is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the group is set to mark the occasion with a special tour.
The band will be playing the album in full during a May 2016 run, sprinkling in some of the better known songs from their catalog and some favorites from their most recent release Long Live as well. A Death-Grip on Yesterday features the single "Ex's and Oh's," as well as such fan favorites as "My Fork in the Road," "Shameful" and "Our Sick Story (Thus Far)."
The tour gets underway on May 3 in Chico, Calif., with dates booked in the western U.S. through a May 20 finale in Las Vegas. Islander and Sworn In will provide support throughout the run, with Nekrogoblikon subbing in for Sworn In on the Seattle date.
Atreyu vocalist Alex Varkatzas said, "Death-Grip is my favorite 'older' Atreyu album. It represents an exciting time and place for myself and my brothers. It's our most 'to the point' record. I also feel it's one of our most natural records as well. Lyrically, I got to run free and it felt great. We are pleased to play it in its entirety and give each song its due!"
Drummer and vocalist Brandon Saller concurred, "For me, Death-Grip was a landmark record in our career. I feel that it was the first album we made where we took fearless leaps into the unknown. This record is still one of my favorite pieces of work we've ever done and I feel like our fans hold it in the same regard. I'm really excited to celebrate 10 great years of this album's life. We will be playing Death-Grip front to back, as well as a good bunch of other favorites."
Tickets for the run will go on sale this Friday (April 1) at 10AM PT via the band's website. Check out the stops for the run below.
