Converge / Mutoid Man drummer Ben Koller recently suffered a “freak accident” which left him with a broken elbow. A GoFundMe has been launched to help Koller with his medical bills, and the $20,000 goal has nearly been reached.

Having to go under the blade immediately after the accident, Koller must complete the healing process and physical therapy before getting behind his drum kit again. It’s a personal tragedy for any musician to be torn from their instrument, but a $20,000 medical bill will cripple any underground musician’s savings.

“On Wednesday December 12th, our friend and legendary drummer Ben Koller (Converge, Mutoid Man, All Pigs Must Die, Killer Be Killed) had a freak accident that resulted in a broken elbow,” writes Mutoid Man frontman Stephen Brodsky. “His injury required immediate surgery with an extended recovery period before he’s able to start physical therapy, and ultimately a long road before he is able to be behind the kit again. The accruing medical bills – as well as the impending loss of steady income through touring, writing and recording – is a massive hit to him, his wife, and their children. Please consider making a donation to help our friend through this difficult time. Any amount helps.”

As of this posting, roughly $18,000 has been raised for Koller, including donations from Saint Vitus Bar, Converge’s Kurt Ballou, Every Time I Die’s Andy Williams, The Armed, Harm’s Way, record producer Steve Albini and many others.
