For a long time, late night talk shows have employed some of the best musicians to be a part of their live band, which is why it's exciting to see Late Night with Seth Meyers bring out legendary drummer Gene Hoglan to join the show's house band on a handful of upcoming episodes. The Galaktikon and Testament drummer will sit in from Oct. 2-5 for Meyers.

"Words cannot express how elated I am to have been invited to man the throne for the mighty 8G Band on Late Night with Seth Meyers in the first week of October," says Gene Hoglan in a statement. "I'm really looking forward to this experience, and it's an honor to be a part of such a fun show. Thank you to all who have helped put this together. You have my esteemed gratitude."

Meyers' 8G Band started with Fred Armisen behind the kit, but as the actor/comedian/musician has been in demand, the host has frequently pulled in some of the best drummers in music to do guest stints with the house band. Hoglan joins the likes of Roy Mayorga, Nicko McBrain, Charlie Benante, Brann Dailor and Dave Lombardo among others who have showcased their talents for the late night show.

Hoglan was recently involved in the newest Galaktikon album, his most recent collaboration with Brendon Small. In our recent interview with him, he spoke about how the album continued on what the two started with Dethklok.

"It’s actually just an extension of Brendon, really. It’s so much more than an extension of Dethklok. It’s kind of an amalgamation of — there’s definitely some Dethklok influences, I’d say. There’s definitely some Galaktikon influences as well as I don’t know if you’d remember that Doomstar Requiem rock ‘Klok opera that we put out a couple of years back. There’s even some elements of that in it," said Hoglan. "It’s pretty much — I can see this as Brendon Small moving forward, moving past Dethklok with a lot of the same elements. If you enjoyed Dethklok, you’re really going to enjoy this record. If you enjoyed the first Galaktikon record, or the Doomstar Requiem, you’re really going to enjoy this record too. It’s just got something for everybody on it."

Late Night With Seth Meyers airs on NBC weeknights at 12:35e/11:35c.
