Metallica remain one of heavy music's top touring acts, but what exactly happens when the band unplugs? It's a fairly rare occasion that the group plays acoustic shows, though they have performed at Neil Young's Bridge School benefit in the past and broken things down for special occasions. One of those occasions happened this past Saturday (Nov. 3) as they took over the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco for a special acoustic set.

The performance came on behalf of their All Within My Hands foundation, with the guys also using the night as a fundraiser and a way to honor those who have helped out their charity over the past year. In addition to their acoustic set, there was also an auction that fans could partake in.

With it being rare that Metallica plays acoustic shows, they delivered a different kind of set list, featuring not only Metallica originals but a number of cover songs as well. On top of favorites like a reimagined "Enter Sandman," "The Unforgiven" and a still heavy "Hardwired," the show included the band's takes on Deep Purple's "When a Blind Man Cries," Nazareth's "Please Don't Judas Me," Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" and Blue Oyster Cult's "Veteran of the Psychic Wars."

See fan-shot performance footage of "Enter Sandman" above, as well as "Hardwired" and other favorites from the night below.
