How many metal stars can you get on one album? We're about to find out when Metal Allegiance release their first disc of original tracks on Sept. 18. The all-star band that features Megadeth's David Ellefson, Testament's Alex Skolnick and the Winery Dogs' Mike Portnoy at its core has just unleashed the first teaser video for the upcoming self-titled set.

In the video above, fans get to see parts of how the first song on the album, "Gift of Pain," came together. There's Lamb of God's Randy Blythe laying down some crushing vocals in the studio, while later air guitar riffing as he hears the playback of the instrumental portion. Meanwhile, Mike Portnoy is ready to lay down some heavy beats behind a pretty impressive drum kit. And Ellefson is hanging out on the board side of the studio laying down some killer low end.

As for the guitars, in one portion of the video we see Skolnick outside just rocking out a guitar solo near a fence. And later there's a shot of Exodus / Slayer guitarist Gary Holt in the studio while Skolnick watches on as he lays down some serious licks.

This all-star collaboration is just one of the highlights of the disc. The album also features Mastodon's Troy Sanders, Mark Menghi Pantera's Rex Brown and Philip Anselmo, Testament's Chuck Billy, Machine Head's Phil Demmel, Sepultura's Andreas Kisser, Death Angel's Mark Osegueda, Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia, Trivium's Matt Heafy, Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, King's X's dUg Pinnick, Dillinger Escape Plan's Ben Weinman, Periphery's Misha Mansoor, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, Anthrax's Charlie Benante, Fozzy's Chris Jericho, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Arch Enemy's Alissa White-Gluz and Exodus' Steve "Zetro" Souza.

The disc is due Sept. 18 via Nuclear Blast. To pre-order the disc in a variety of options, check out the Nuclear Blast webstore. At present no dates are scheduled, but the band's site teases new shows coming soon. Stay tuned here to see where they're playing.
