Sitcom ‘Silicon Valley’ Unleashes Most Nu-Metal Playlist Ever
Russfest may not be real, but that didn't stop HBO from creating a full-fledged website hyping the fictional desert-based music fest that served as the centerpiece for the most recent episodes of their long-running series Silicon Valley. In fact, there's even a Russfest playlist!
"Hundreds of miles from civilization, a vast expanse of nothing is about to become something," teases the festival website launched by Pied Piper for gonzo billionaire Russ Hanneman's titular festival. "Because we’re going to start a revolution in the middle of the fucking desert. Come to RussFest for the most insane, the most badass, the fucking craziest weekend of your life."
The event offers festival grounds camping, VIP camping, and yes, car camping. What is car camping? Russ explains, "Look I get it. You kinky devils, I get it. You think I don’t know what you are up to? You guys want to get consensually handsy in the back of a hatchback while draining your battery listening to Limp Bizkit’s 'Nookie.' Been there, done that, would do it again."
Hanneman, the recurring character played by Chris Diamantopolous, is obviously a fan of the turn of the century nu metal movement, even teasing during a pitch meeting that Puddle of Mudd would be playing. Sure, there are a few grunge era classics and some metal in there, but we can feel what gets his motor running.
On the website, Hannemann added, "Music and tequila go hand in hand, like tight pants and tight asses. You’re going to be blown away by the bands I’ve hooked you up with at RussFest. But no way am I going to spoil the fucking surprise and tell you who’s going to be there. As my gift to you, here’s a playlist of music I like, just to get you in the mood to fuck with RussFest. Enjoy." That led to an expansive Spotify playlist which you can check out below featuring the likes of Limp Bizkit, Crazy Town, Papa Roach, the aforementioned Puddle of Mudd, Trapt, P.O.D., Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Korn and many more. There's 60 songs in all cause Russ doesn't do anything small.
So enjoy the Russfest playlist, check out the website here and remember the Code of Conduct: Be cool. Go fucking wild. Don't be a dick.
Russfest set in motion the events that will take place in this coming weekend's Silicon Valley series finale. For a preview of what's to come, see the trailer below and tune in to HBO this Sunday (Dec. 8) at 10PM ET to see how it all wraps up.
