Canadian metallers Voivod have a new face in the band, as Dominic "Rocky" Laroche has joined the band following the exit of the group's longtime bassist Blacky.

Voivod revealed just last week that Blacky had decided to leave the band for his own "personal reasons." The band's statement on Blacky's exit can be found here.

Shortly after it was announced that Blacky was stepping down from his touring responsibilities, it was announced that Rocky would step in to help the band for their immediate touring, including the upcoming Heavy Montreal festival on Aug. 9. Frontman Denis 'Snake' Belanger revealed that after the festival show, the group would return to the studio to focus on a new album that will likely arrive in 2015.

Laroche made his live debut with the band Saturday night (June 12) at the Festival Jonquiere En Musique in Jonquiere, Quebec. Fan-shot footage from the show of him playing 'Astronomy Domine' can be found above. Prior to the show, the band was honored as "international ambassadors of La Ville de Saguenay" and will have their names inscribed on a plaque that will be permanently featured in Jonquiere's Nikitoutagan Square.

Blacky played bass for Voivod from 1982-1991 before leaving for an extended period. He later returned to the band in 2008 and helmed the position until just last week.
