Voivod Stream ‘Post Society’ EP Title Track
Canadian futurist metallers Voivod have unleashed the title track from their forthcoming EP, Post Society, due out Feb. 26 on Century Media. The release is the first to feature newly added bassist, Rocky (Dominique Laroche) who joined the band in 2014, replacing longtime four-stringer Blacky (Jean-Yves Thériault). An amalgam of all their influences, "Post Society" is Voivod in their truest form.
Opening with a rumbling bass line showcasing the Motorhead influence that permeated their early days, the song wastes no time delving into their unique brand of thrash, featuring the discordant lead playing of guitarist Chewy (Daniel Mongrain). Snake's (Denis Bélanger) signature, nasal-toned voice takes charge, furthering the spacey touch the band has such an affinity for. Mid-way through the track, Voivod slow things down, letting cords sustain only to be picked back up by twisted lead work.
Drummer Away (Michel Lengevin) talked about "Post Society" stating, "Another apocalyptic song from the RadicArt sessions. I think 'Post Society' is a good indication of where we are heading for musically. Ingredients from all the Voivod eras with a futuristic touch. I can't wait to play it live!" The stickman is also responsible for the EP's artwork, which can be seen below.
Voivod will be touring in support of Post Society, taking Vektor — who tout their love for Voivod in facets of their futuristic thrash — and Eight Bells on the road with them. The trek will launch on Feb. 6 in Providence, R.I. and come to a close on March 5 in Hamilton, Ontario. For a full list of dates, visit our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
