W.A.S.P. to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of ‘The Crimson Idol’ With Previously Unreleased Movie
W.A.S.P. have enjoyed a very full career, delivering metal to fans in four different decades. But looking back upon their history, it's easy to pick out The Crimson Idol as one of the highlights of their career. The 1992 album was a big one for the band and the group is ready to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album with the release of the never-before-seen accompanying film.
The concept album followed the story of Jonathan Aaron Steele, an abused child looking for love and eventually finding acceptance in music as he rises to international superstardom before enduring a catastrophic fall from grace. It includes such standout tracks as "Chainsaw Charlie," "I Am One," "The Idol" and "Hold on to My Heart." The album was initially meant to soundtrack an accompanying movie, and now, in celebration of the disc's 25th anniversary, the film will finally be released.
While an official street date has yet to be revealed, W.A.S.P. are planning to issue Re-Idolized, a 25th anniversary edition of the album, along with the original film The Crimson Idol on DVD and Blu-Ray. A trailer for the film can be seen above. Napalm Records will be issuing the full package with details on the release expected soon.
Meanwhile, W.A.S.P. are hitting the road in Europe in November for the "Re-Idolized: 25th Anniversary of The Crimson Idol" tour. Dates can be found here.
