Between the Buried and Me’s Automata I album is out now. To bring fans further into the dreamscape, BTBAM have unveiled a new video for “Millions,” which really brings the Automata concept to life.

As one of the most accomplished conceptual metal acts of the 21st century, Between the Buried and Me challenged themselves once again with Automata I, forming a story about dreams being harvested for entertainment purposes. The video for “Condemned to the Gallows” didn’t directly address the album’s storyline, but “Millions” gets right into the crux of Automata.

Cutting from BTBAM to the protagonist’s dream, “Millions” shows what it would actually be like to witness somebody’s deepest thoughts on a silver screen. The main character constantly shifts between ages and scenarios, feeling as random and non-linear as dreams tend to be. We even get a shot of a theater of viewers watching this man’s subconscious.

“We never want to repeat ourselves. We’re always trying to do something different, and this album fell right into that sort of pattern. We push ourselves into new places, while retaining our basic sound,” says guitarist Paul Waggoner. “Musically, we go somewhere that’s fun and challenging. We never know how it’s going to turn out. These are uncharted waters for us. We’ve never written an entire piece and presented it in separate parts like this."
