Time and time again, Body Count have proven themselves to be one of contemporary metal's most important acts, bringing real politics to a wide swath of listeners. To hammer in this fact, Body Count will be playing the 2018 Grammy pre-show, live.

The news was first reported by frontman Ice-T who said the following on Twitter,  "Ok……. They just asked us if Body Count would PERFORM at the Grammy’s….! WTF is going on???? It’s the Pre Show.. When they give out the Metal and other awards… But still….. I’m blown away."

Body Count's song "Black Hoodie" was nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category at this year's event, which will be broadcast Jan. 28 on CBS at 7:30PM ET. Also nominated in the same category were Mastodon, MeshuggahAugust Burns Red and Code Orange. Most of the Grammy categories are awarded in a pre-telecast ceremony the same day as the live broadcast on CBS. The pre-telecast ceremony will be available to stream online via Grammy.com.

Body Count released their record Bloodlust earlier this year, and it was stacked with politically charged, heavy metal thrashers. Body Count aren't new at the award show circuit either, considering they made a very memorable appearance at the inaugural Loudwire Awards this past October. We've known for a while that Body Count are an important part in the genre's culture, so it's great to see the whole world realizing what's up.

See Ice-T's tweets below about the event.
