Dragonforce Embrace the Meme, Perform on Giant Arcade Games

If it wasn’t already obvious, Dragonforce have fully embraced their video game aesthetic. While performing at the Elb-Riot Festival in Germany, the power metal band busted out two giant arcade game cabinets for some retro nostalgia.

Dragonforce have gone virtual for their Extreme Power Metal album, especially in their music video for “Highway to Oblivion.” The lightning fast players have now brought gaming to the concert stage, building gigantic cabinets for Street Fighter and Super Space Fortress. Flat screen televisions have been placed inside the arcade games, with scenes from each playing while Dragonforce perform live.

The musicians can even shred on top of the cabinets, which stand at almost 10 feet tall.

Dragonforce recently announced the departure of longtime bassist Frederic Leclercq. "I had an amazing opportunity that will be announced soon,” Leclercq said. “There is no bad blood and I wish the band all the best. I want to thank the fans for their support throughout the years."

YouTuber Stevie T (Steve Terreberry) actually memed his way into Dragonforce, and will be the band’s temporary touring guitarist during their 2019 North American tour dates.
