Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is adding more credits to his acting resume. He is appearing in the movie 'Like Sunday, Like Rain,' which opens in theaters March 13. Watch a trailer for the film above.

The independent drama also stars Leighton Meester ('Gossip Girl') and Debra Messing ('Will and Grace,' 'Smash'). It was written and directed by veteran actor Frank Whaley, who has appeared in numerous movies over the years ranging from 'Field of Dreams' to 'JFK' to 'The Doors.' Armstrong play Dennis, described as a troubled boyfriend.

The plot revolves around Meester's character being hired by Messing's character to care for her 12-year-old son, who is a cello prodigy. According to the movie's Facebook page, it is a "delicately etched coming of age story." 'Like Sunday, Like Rain' recently won several awards at the Williamsburg Independent Film Festival.

Armstrong also stars in the upcoming movie 'Geezer,' set for release later this year. He plays Perry, a 40-year-old husband and father in the midst of a mid-life crisis who holds a lavish 40th birthday party where he runs into his ex-girlfriend and former bandmates who have all moved on with their lives.

Judy Greer, Fred Armisen, Selma Blair and Chris Messina are among the other actors appearing in the film. Armstrong also wrote new songs for that film.

Armstrong has had time to explore acting while Green Day has been on a hiatus. The band was recently selected for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the ceremony coming up April 18 in Cleveland, Ohio. He talked about the selection and the band's future plans in a recent interview.
