Green Day announced their return to the studio on Valentine's Day and now the Bay Area punk rockers have released some footage from the first day of the recording sessions.

With multiplatinum albums like 'Dookie' and 'American Idiot' under their belts, any Green Day album is a big release. So fans are highly anticipating this upcoming disc.

The band, no doubt aware of their feverish following, has been periodically keeping fans up to date on their upcoming ninth studio album via Twitter. "Happy Valentine's day! Officially started recording the new record today. It's F--- TIME!!!!" tweeted frontman Billie Joe Armsrtrong.

Not only did the band announce the sessions, it would appear they plan to document the experience on film as well. A brief 20-second clip appeared on the Green Day YouTube channel, which shows the first day of the band getting down to business on the follow-up to 2009's '21st Century Breakdown' -- the album is expected to be released at some point in 2012.
