Tonight (May 31) is the debut of the new NBC variety show Maya and Marty, starring Saturday Night Live alumni Maya Rudolph and Martin Short, and as you'll hear this evening, the theme song for the show was written by Jack White. You can listen it in the player below.

Rudolph and Short, along with SNL's Kenan Thompson, will be joined each week by numerous celebrity guests. Among those slated to appear on the premiere are Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus, Tom Hanks and Larry David.

In addition to writing and producing the funky instrumental, White also plays the drums on the Maya and Marty theme. The other musicians on the track are organist Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age), bassist Dominic Davis, guitarist Lillie Mae Rische and guitarist Fats Kaplin.

White had another TV gig earlier this year, appearing on the season (and what turned out to be the series) finale of The Muppets. He and the Muppets performed the Stevie Wonder classic "You are the Sunshine of My Life." White also co-wrote the track "Don't Hurt Yourself" on Beyonce's latest album Lemonade.

He's also branching out beyond music, teaming up with Detroit Tigers player Ian Kinsler to invest in in a baseball bat company. The longtime Tigers fan says, “Most baseball bats and equipment in the sports world do not impress me much, but I think that there is a lot of room to explore aesthetic ideas in just baseball alone that can bring beauty and purpose to the weapons that athletes use to accomplish their goals."
