Mastodon’s ‘Emperor of Sand’ Debuts at No. 7 on Billboard 200, Hits No. 1 on Top Album Sales Chart
Mastodon deserve a giant congratulations for Emperor of Sand landing so high on Billboard. Along with hitting No. 7 on the Top 200 chart, Emperor of Sand is officially the highest-selling album of the week across all genres!
These days, the Billboard 200 relies on multi-metric consumption, which brings into account traditional album sales, track equivalent albums and streaming equivalent albums. The new April 22 chart will be posted in full tomorrow (April 11) but we can already tell you where Mastodon placed.
Emperor of Sand is Mastodon’s third consecutive Top 10 album, with The Hunter hitting No. 10 in 2011 and Once More ‘Round the Sun nailing the No. 6 spot on the Top 200 in 2014. Emperor of Sand debuted at No. 7 with a total of 43,000 units accumulated.
Here’s where it get really impressive — when it comes to traditional album sales, Mastodon’s newest album sold more copies this week than any other album, period. Out of those 43,000 units, 41,000 of them are purchases of the entire album either physically or digitally. Not even chart-toppers like Drake, Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars managed to touch Mastodon, giving the Georgia metal masters the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart!
