A band who's never been tied to one single genre, Nashville Pussy have always found a way to blend rock and roll with country, blues, metal and punk. This has never been more obvious than with their latest record, 'Up the Dosage,' a collection of 13 guitar-driven tracks so full of power and intensity, you'll no doubt need a cigarette when you're finished listening.

Guitarist and founding member Ruyter Suys -- who also happens to be married to the band's frontman Blaine Cartwright -- spent some time with Loudwire to discuss all things Nashville Pussy, from what it was like recording 'Up the Dosage' to the band's 2014 tour plans.

Eight studio albums into your career with Nashville Pussy, you still seem like you're able to pack surprises for your fans and listeners. How was the recording process of 'Up the Dosage' different than past records?

It might’ve been the easiest, if that makes sense. Maybe it was just because we were under time constraints, and, you know, we haven’t done it in awhile. We f---ing love it and just love being in the studio. We probably could’ve made the process last longer, but why do it wrong the first time? On almost all of my guitar solos, the first take was the keeper. Everything was easy, even the writing process was really fast. I think we were pent up or something like that, it was nice to get in there. It felt good, and it was just like, bam! Thus, the lightning bolt on the cover!

Your husband has referred to this album as the band's 'Back in Black.' The influence of AC/DC is obvious on the new tunes, but it never sounds like you're ripping them off or just trying to copy what they've done.

The funny thing is we don’t really listen to that kind of music anymore. I mean, I guess Blaine [Cartwright, frontman] does more than I do, but it’s just part of our being now. It’s part of our essence. We don’t have to listen to it to be inspired by it. I just think it came out more on this record, all of the obvious inspirations. I grew up listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin and Blaine got me into Aerosmith. I listen to Iggy Pop, AC/DC, Sabbath, it’s just part of our roots. It’s not hard for it to come out.

Do you think longtime fans will immediately dig this record?

F--- yeah. This is a weird album that might appease both our crowd, the really cruel audience who are defiantly fans, and everyone else! Our fans are very picky but very loyal, but I think this album might branch out a little bit. A Nashville Pussy fan will not be disappointed with this.

Is there one song that's representative of 'Up the Dosage?'

‘Everybody’s Fault But Mine’ or ‘Rub it to Death,’ those are my two favorites on the record. I like it all, though. I like the whole record.

'Everbody's Fault But Mine' is such a great track to open the album.

It sets the stage for the whole record, even my corny organ at the beginning. Welcome to the Church of Nashville Pussy, prepare to get laid!

Will you be touring the States after your European trek?

We’ll definitely be here sometime in 2014. We’ve got two big European tours booked, then Japan, Australia, New Zealand. Hopefully we’ll get a couple of legs in, and would love to go back out with someone like ZZ Top again for another good tour. But, you know what, if we can’t get a good tour, we’ll just do a great one by ourselves.

What else is going on in the world of Nashville Pussy?

Blaine and I have a radio station right now, called Slinging Pig Radio. If you know your bootleg history, it’s an homage to one of the best bootleggers of all time, Slinging Pig. They were one of the first ones to get seriously f---ing busted for bootlegging and were made examples of. In honor of them, we have a little record label and this internet radio station which is doing really f---ing good. It’s basically our vinyl collections. Blaine does a drunken podcast every now and again, which is just him and a bottle of whiskey and a wall of vinyl! We don’t play anything sh-tty, death to sh-tty music is our motto!

Our thanks to Nashville Pussy's Ruyter Suys for taking the time to chat with us. Pick up Nashville Pussy's latest album, 'Up the Dosage,' at iTunes.
