The news of current NBA player Jason Collins coming out and publicly announcing his homosexuality generated a lot of commentary and reaction Monday (April 29) and continues to be a hot topic as he became the first athlete in the four major sports to reveal he was gay while still playing. The conversation wasn't just relegated to sports figures as a number of hard rock and metal acts weighed in with their own thoughts on the subject.

Motley Crue and Sixx: A.M.'s Nikki Sixx, an advocate of the NoH8 campaign, was among the first to voice his support of Collins and later spoke of the discussion it generated with both positive and negative feedback. He wasn't the only artist who weighed in, as Tom Morello, Flea, Billy Corgan, Otep Shamaya and Shadows Fall's Brian Fair also commented on the first openly gay active NBA player.
