AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’ Certified 25 Times Platinum
While there's been plenty of discussion of late about AC/DC's future, their past continues to fare quite well. According to recent chart data from the RIAA, the band's iconic 1980 album has now surpassed 25 million in certified units/sales in the U.S.
It didn't take long for the album to make its mark, reaching gold and then platinum status in October of 1980. It reached 5 times platinum status in October 1984 and was diamond certified (10 million sold) in October of 1990. Back in Black reached 20 times platinum in June 2004 and now surpassed 25 times platinum as of the RIAA certification on Dec. 6, 2019.
Back in Black was the first album to feature Brian Johnson as vocalist after the death of Bon Scott. It included such classic tracks as "Hells Bells," "You Shook Me All Night Long," the title track, "Shoot to Thrill" and "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution."
As for the band's future, there has been talk that the group has welcomed back Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd, while utilizing some of the guitar work of the late Malcolm Young as they work toward a new album. No further details have been revealed.
