Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates Eyeing Jazz Solo Album
As we've seen over the years, Avenged Sevenfold's Synyster Gates is a student of his craft, continually expanding his horizons as a guitarist and incorporating different styles of playing into his repertoire. The Stage saw Avenged Sevenfold broadening their musical palette, especially with the deluxe edition that included "Malaguena Salerosa," and in a new interview Gates appears eager to continue his experimentation.
During a recent interview with Ultimate-Guitar, Gates discussed his fascination with jazz and even confirmed that a jazz solo album is on his "to-do" list. In the chat, Gates stated that he had a growing interest in "classical and flamenco" music, adding, "I'm really starting to kind of get into that. I'm working on my Rasgueado, like whips and all that kind of crazy stuff. I have some really cool ideas - ideas I'm really excited about doing for the next album with some really cool rhythmic Rasgueado-style type of things. I just don't know how to do it yet."
When asked if he will ever record his own jazz solo album, Gates confirmed, "Yes I will," but was unable to offer a timeline on said disc when asked a follow-up question.
Gates' love of guitar and learning various techniques prompted him to launch the Synyster Gates School with his father this past year, serving as an online base for aspiring guitarists of all skill levels to continue to learn from one another and assorted videos provided.
