The legendary Roger Waters will be the host for this year's Music Heals benefit concert that will take place Oct. 16 in Washington, DC. Joining the former Pink Floyd singer-bassist for the event will be Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, Tom Morello and Sheryl Crow.

The concert benefits the MusiCorps organization, which supports injured soldiers and their families. They also teach wounded soldiers to play musical instruments. MusiCorps integrates regular visits by musicians, who serve as mentors, and the use of traditional instruments along with computer workstations and custom equipment. Wounded warriors are able to learn, play, write, record and perform music as a core part of their rehabilitation.

The MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band is the performance part of the program. Waters has mentored and performed with them over the years. He says, "The work I have done over the last few years with these men and women has been some of the most rewarding work I have ever done."

In addition to participating in the Music Heals concert, Corgan announced last month that Smashing Pumpkins summer tour with Marilyn Manson will help raise money and awareness for veterans and military families. They are partnering with Easter Seals Dixon Center.

“The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness to the challenges and trauma that so many of our veterans and military families face while reintegrating back into civilian society,” Corgan says. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with Easter Seals Dixon Center in reminding fans and industry affiliates that we must partake in their emotional journey home. Their honor, service and sacrifice should never be forgotten.”

The End Times tour kicks off on July 7 in Concord, Calif.
