Watch Black Sabbath Deliver a Highly Emotional Performance of ‘Paranoid’ From ‘The End’ Concert Film
Black Sabbath's final The End tour marked, well, the end of Black Sabbath as a touring and active entity as we know it. As sad as it is that we won't be seeing another Black Sabbath tour, it is great that the band is leaving us with a gift in an upcoming concert film The End, which captures the final show the heavy metal band ever played in February 2017 in Birmingham, England. Recently the band released a new clip from the film -- their entire performance of "Paranoid."
Few songs in all of music are as immediately recognizable like Black Sabbath's "Paranoid," and as the clip shows, Sabbath could still nail the song in their final moments. The video cuts between footage of the band delivering an intense and deeply emotional performance, and the entire arena singing along to every single word. Ozzy Osbourne's voice still sounds excellent, as he's able to belt out a same level of power and sound he's had from the beginning. Tony Iommi's riffing is equally on point, putting together some great sounds with a seeming ease through it all, while Geezer Butler delivers the grooves on bass. It's an excellent and uplifting performance of the song, with Ozzy sharing a heartfelt and emotional thanks to the crowd.
The End is set for release Nov. 17. A limited deluxe collector's edition set will feature The End on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as double CD. It includes the Angelic Sessions (all housed in gatefold card sleeves), plus a 32-page bound book on heavyweight stock, a metal Winged Demon pin bad, a replica of The End tour laminate and three plectrums (all housed in a DVD-height two-piece rigid mirror board box).
“Because it was Birmingham, it was a special night for us,” said guitarist Tony Iommi of the show. “It was great to look out and know that all these people have come to see us. What a great feeling. There’s nothing like it”. Bassist Geezer Butler added, “It will never be ‘The End’ for me. I’ll always be a part of Sabbath, and Sabbath will always be a part of me."
Tony Iommi will be receiving the Courage Award at the 2017 Loudwire Music Awards ceremony and concert on Oct. 24. The awards trophy has also been cast from Iommi's very own hand and a making of video can be seen below. The event, hosted by WWE superstar and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho, will also honor Judas Priest‘s Rob Halford and Van Halen legend Sammy Hagar with special performances from Avenged Sevenfold, Anthrax, Halestorm, Body Count, Nothing More, Starset, Power Trip and more.
