Devin Townsend Debuts Superbly Weird Song 'Genesis'

When Devin Townsend disbanded the Devin Townsend Project, we were all bummed. Hevy Devy has been teasing the release of his new solo album, Empath, for a while now and he's offered up its first single, "Genesis," which can be heard above.

It's exactly what you'd expect from Devin Townsend — something beautifully weird. Listening to "Genesis" is like watching a flower blossom with more layers unfolding as time passes. The masterclass musician manages to wrangle everything from tranquil soundscapes to vein-popping explosions of blast beat angst. Take every sound you heard across the Devin Townsend Project discography, throw it in the blender, pour it out and the result is a tall glass called "Genesis."

Empath will be out on March 29 through InsideOut Music. Catch Devin Townsend on the road supporting Avatar at the dates listed below. Townsend will be playing special acoustic sets during the entire run.
