Evanescence Showcase Electronic Direction in New Song ‘Imperfection’
This is the moment you've been waiting for, Evanescence fans! The group is set to release Synthesis, which will package some of their biggest songs, like "Bring Me to Life," as reimagined orchestral and electronic versions as well as two new songs. One of those new tracks, "Imperfection," has finally arrived and showcases Evanescence's new direction.
Opening with a gentle piano melody, "Imperfection," doesn't feel all that different, but this quickly changes after just 10 seconds, introducing glitchy, elastic electronic elements that undulate with heaving bass. Amy Lee leans a on more pop-oriented delivery with a hushed vocal approach over the verse with just a touch of a hip-hop like swagger. The explosive chorus, despite lacking traditional rock elements like guitar, still falls in line from what we've heard from the band throughout their first three albums.
"For me, this is the most important song on the album. I struggled with the lyrics for a long time because there was a lifetime of work to live up to and I wasn't sure what to say or how to be good enough," began Lee. "When it finally started pouring out of me, it was undeniable. I had no choice. It's for all the people we've lost, all the people who we could lose, to suicide and depression. I'm singing from the perspective of the person left behind, the person in the waiting room. It's a plea to fight for your life, to stay. Don't give into the fear- I have to tell myself that every day. Nobody is perfect. We are all imperfect, and it's precisely those imperfections that make us who we are, and we have to embrace them because there's so much beauty in those differences. Life is worth fighting for. You are worth fighting for."
Synthesis will be released on Nov. 10 through Sony and pre-orders can be placed here.
Evanescence will hit the road on Oct. 15 to embark on a North American tour in support of Synthesis. The run will span nearly 30 dates, wrapping up over two months later on Dec. 19. To see if the tour is coming to a city near you, click here.
