Ex-Suffocation’s Guy Marchais Selling Signature Guitar to Pay for Chemotherapy Treatment
Former Suffocation guitarist Guy Marchais is selling his custom BC Rich Warlock to help pay for his chemotherapy. With medical bills piling up, Marchais is hoping to unload the axe, which he used during hundreds of Suffo shows and during the recording sessions for the band’s 2006 self-titled album.
Marchais was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January and started his treatment plan the following month. The guitarist is currently going through chemotherapy.
Guy is selling his BC Rich on Reverb.com, currently listing the axe for $6,500. “Sorry to have to say I am parting ways with my first custom signature model BC Rich warlock,” Marchais writes. “This guitar comes with a hardshell tour case. I’ve used it on hundreds of shows and live performances and in the music video ‘Abomination Reborn’ with the band Suffocation I also used it in the studio on the self-titled album Suffocation. I really hate to part ways with it but I’m going through chemotherapy and I need the money. Buyer pays shipping.”
A GoFundMe page was also started on behalf of Marchais to provide relief for his mounting medical bills. As of this posting, the crowdfunding effort has raised $18,000 of its $100,000 goal.
Marchais left Suffocation shortly before the band began recording …Of the Dark Light, admitting he just wasn’t “willing to put in the work that it takes” to pump out a new album.
