In what was by far the most voted-upon poll of our Greatest Metal Guitarist competition so far, Slayer's Jeff Hanneman was able to edge out Avenged Sevenfold's Synyster Gates. A malfunction in the poll on Aug. 3 caused a slight issue, but we were able to save all of your votes before starting a fresh poll later that day.

As one of our readers pointed out in the Synyster Gates vs. Jeff Hanneman comments section, Hanneman was leading with nearly 52% of the vote when we experienced the poll malfunction. At that point in time, approximately 110,000 votes had been cast. After a new poll was posted, an additional 22,351 ballots were cast, with Hanneman receiving 50.21% of your votes once the survey expired. We've received a few messages from concerned fans; some telling us that the poll ended a few minutes early while others claimed that it ended up to 10 minutes late, but regardless of either potential mishap, the numbers still remain in Hanneman's favor, sending the Slayer shredder into the Semifinals.

Also entering this Semifinals matchup is Tool guitarist Adam Jones, who scored an impressive victory over the immortal Randy Rhoads. Jones beat out the likes of DragonForce's Herman Li and the almighty Slash in previous rounds, but now Jones will spiral out to the next round and face Jeff Hanneman.

Jeff Hanneman or Adam Jones? Cast your vote for the Greatest Metal Guitarist in the poll below! Voting for this round closes on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 10AM ET. Fans can vote once per hour, so keep coming back to make sure that your favorite metal musician wins!
