Kid Rock spent Saturday (August 18) helping to give an Army sergeant and his wife the surprise of a lifetime: A free new home in a northern Detroit suburb.

Rock joined up with Operation Finally Home, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing "custom made mortgage free homes to wounded and disabled veterans and the widows of the fallen in an effort to get their lives back on track and become productive members of their communities," to present Davin Dumar and his wife, Dana, with the house.

As the Detroit News reports, Rock was hiding inside the house with media representatives and members of the Dumar's family as the young couple walked up for what they thought was just another appointment to look at a model for a potential new home. After hearing the Dumars tell their realtor how much they liked the location, Rock joked to his fellow conspirators, "Don't anybody screw this up and say happy birthday."

The group then burst into applause for the Dumars, informing them Operation Finally Home would be building them a new house in the development, with Rock telling Davin, "We are all grateful for your service to our country" and breaking out cigars for the celebration.

"I wasn't expecting this," responded a stunned Dumar, who lost a leg and injured an arm during his tour of duty in Afghanistan last year. "I love my job and I'd do it all over again if I had to."
