It's old school vs. new school in this Round 1 battle of our Most Haunting Halloween Track tournament as King Diamond takes on Godsmack!

King Diamond’s live show has always been suited for Oct. 31, but in this song King shows his love for Halloween! The song "Halloween" is a simple homage to metal’s favorite holiday and the lyrics are a tad tongue-in-cheek: “Oh it's Halloween / Every night to me is Halloween / Like an ancient scene / You know just what I mean / Halloween you are my pride / Halloween not just a dream.” The song is sure to scare trick-or-treaters with King’s piercing and unmistakable falsetto.

Godsmack’s hit “Voodoo” might not inherently be about Halloween, but it definitely invokes the vibe of movies like The Serpent and the Rainbow, which should be on anyone’s viewing list this time of year. Black magic, witchcraft, ghosts, goblins, voodoo, it all falls under the same collective umbrella when it comes to determining the best song for Halloween. The song paints a hazy picture of what is about to unfold, “Hazing clouds rain on my head / Empty thoughts fill my ears / Find my shade by the moon light / Why my thoughts aren't so clear / Demons dreaming / Breathe in, breathe in / I'm coming back again.”
