In early 2010, former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo announced that he was working on his autobiography with writer Corey Mitchell. Now, bassist Rex Brown – Anselmo’s ex-bandmate in Down and Pantera -- has joined Anselmo in the book-writing ring.

Brown has signed a deal with Da Capo Press to write a memoir entitled ‘Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story of Pantera.’ The book has been described as “starkly honest and revealing” and will address Brown’s years as the bassist for the volatile and explosive Pantera. The tome will chronicle the Texas thrash band’s rise from the club scene to the arena stage, addressing the excesses and indulgences of the road and the tragic onstage assassination of guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott (when he was a member of Damageplan). The tentative release date for the project is fall 2012.

Meanwhile, ex-Grim Reaper guitarist and Guitar World writer Nick Bowcott is reportedly working on a book on the life of Dimebag. It is the only book so far that has received the blessings and cooperation of Dime’s brother Vinnie Paul Abbott and the Abbott family.

Brown, who left Down earlier this year, is currently playing with the new supergroup Kill Devil Hill, which also features ex-Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice, ex-Ratt/W.A.S.P guitarist Mark Zavon and Pissing Razors vocalist Jason “Dewey” Bragg.

Anselmo, in the meantime, has talked at length about the tension between the surviving Pantera bandmembers in recent interviews.
