Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals Postpone Tour After Anselmo’s Back Surgery
Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals have decided to push back their tour with King Parrot. Following a back surgery Anselmo underwent in January, the frontman has decided he needs more time “to be one-thousand” percent onstage.
As many fans know, back issues have plagued Philip Anselmo for decades, with the vocalist getting major surgery in 2006. This year, Anselmo had perhaps his final back operation to correct “one little nagging thing” that was still causing him pain. "I think once they zap that, shit… I guess I'll be closest to feeling as close to normal for the first time in decades,” Philip told WSOU.
Anselmo & the Illegals were supposed to take King Parrot on tour in the spring, but dates have been moved to August-September so Anselmo can have more recovery time. “As many of you know, I had a second back surgery in late January. I'm having an incredible recovery, but just want to be one-thousand percent when I get to jam the new Illegals with all my brothers and sisters,” Anselmo says. “My apologies for jumping the gun extend to the fans, my fellow Illegals, King Parrot, our crews, and all mechanical parties involved, but we will all see it's the right decision soon. See you cats and chicks in the fall! Much love, as always."
The Illegals issued their second full-length album, Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue, in January. “[The album] is going to get hated. It's going to get loved. Like every record, I've ever done, I put zero expectations upon my peers, critics or the general fucking public,” the singer said about the sophomore release.
Stay tuned for the rescheduled tour dates as soon as Anselmo & the Illegals announce their fall shows.
