Revocation, ‘Crumbling Imperium’ – Lyric Video Premiere
Technical death thrashers Revocation are back with their sixth slab of fleet-fingered, riff-hungry metal on Great Is Our Sin. Fans will have to wait until July 22 to hear the whole disc, but Loudwire is bringing you the premiere of the lyric video for "Crumbling Imperium," which can be heard above, or below if you're in a country where the YouTube player is geo-blocked.
Since Revocation released Existence If Futile, David Davidson quickly rose to prominence as one of metal's most diverse and elite guitarists. The frontman stakes this territory once again on "Crumbling Imperium," opening with a rapid hammer-on melody before stripping away the intensity in favor of a bass-driven, barren passage rife with dazed, bluesy chords. Serpentine lead work takes over as Davidson's savage barks detail one of the many faults of mankind throughout history.
Great Is Our Sin marks Revocation's first foray into the conceptual realm. The album's title was taken from the Charles Darwin quote, "If the misery of the poor be caused not by the laws of nature, but by our institutions, great is our sin." Davidson used this as the framework for developing the theme, stating, "The concept revolves around the folly of man throughout the ages. Some themes come from historical references that are hundreds of years old, yet sadly these themes are still very relevant today due to mankind's refusal to learn from the lessons history has taught us, time and time again."
