Slayer, King Diamond, Hellyeah + The Devil Wears Prada Rock 2015 Mayhem Festival Main Stage
The 2015 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival hit San Bernadino, Calif., on Saturday, June 27th. The main stage was led by a powerhouse performance by Slayer, along with sets from King Diamond, Hellyeah and The Devil Wears Prada.
Headliners Slayer started things off with a blistering "Repentless," the title track off of their upcoming 11th studio album. Their performance was literally incendiary, with pyrotechnics shooting off while Kerry King and Gary Holt played searing guitar solos. The band also worked in "When the Stillness Comes," the other new song already out there from their upcoming Repentless disc.
Their set was heavy with the fan-favorites, and they saved the biggest tracks -- "South of Heaven," "Raining Blood," and "Angel of Death" -- for the end of their hour long set.
Both King Diamond and Hellyeah brought heavy doses of theatricality to this year's Mayhem Fest. King Diamond's gothic church set piece was stunning, featuring gargoyles and stained glass windows. King Diamond's performance was dramatic and mesmerizing, featuring such favorites as "The Candle," "Sleepless Nights," "Eye of the Witch," "Evil," and "Come to the Sabbath."
Hellyeah's theatricality stems not from set pieces but from the performance of lead singer Chad Gray, who darts around stage dripping blood. They opened their 40 minute set with "Sangre Por Sangre (Blood for Blood)" and leaned heavy on their current album favorites "Demons in the Dirt" and "Moth," while also digging deeper in their history for "You Wouldn't Know."
Metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada opened the main stage with "Escape," and followed with a solid set that included "Sailor's Prayer," "Assistant to the Regional Manager," "Reptar, King of the Ozone," and "Mammoth" among other tracks.
