Last year, we premiered the music video for Small Town Titans' thrilling, dark cover of the holiday favorite, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." With a new version of The Grinch movie now in theaters, the song has caught a massive second wind, going viral on Facebook, so we invited the band into Loudwire Studios for an exclusive acoustic performance.

Phil Freeman, Ben Guiles and Jonny Ross made the trek from their home state of Pennsylvania and nailed the performance in just one take. Here, they take the dark, doomy version of their original cover and strip it down to a pair of acoustic guitars and a cajón (drum box). Freeman's versatile voice is highlighted even more in this rendition, his deeper register able to compete with the booming vocal of the original version of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch."

"Around the basic chords we just built this minor sounding tune and [Phil] started singing to it and it just became what it was. Did we know that we would be sitting here? No, not because of 'The Grinch,' no," guitarist Ben Guiles told us before the performance when discussing the origin of the cover.

Watch the performance in the video above and be sure to follow Small Town Titans on Facebook.
