The Smashing Pumpkins gave a killer performance last night (June 20) at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City. The intimate performance celebrated the release of the band’s ninth studio album ‘Oceania.’

They kicked off the night with a cover of the KISS tune ‘Black Diamond’ and then performed a block of fan favorites such as ‘Zero,’ ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’ and ‘Today.’

In between songs frontman Billy Corgan humorously chatted with energetic fans. “Love New York, Love New York, I don’t love New Yorkers though, that’s different,” Corgan joked.

With the show a celebration of their new album, the band performed a few tracks from ‘Oceania,' including ‘Quasar,’ ‘Panopticon’ and ‘The Celestials.’

Just before playing ‘The Celestials,’ Corgan questioned whether or not his guitar was in tune. ‘Did Jimi Hendrix have to go through this?” he asked.

Corgan’s energy and charisma onstage were a welcome sight for fans. Not to mention the stunning and very talented bassist Nicole Florentino, who provided deep and melodic bass lines.

Rhythm guitarist Jeff Schroder also got some love from fans as he played some notable riffs, while drummer Mike Byrne unleashed some serious vigor behind the skins.

The band also performed a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ and rounded out the night with ‘Cherub Rock’ and ‘X.Y.U.’

It’s no wonder why the music of the Smashing Pumpkins has been going strong for over 20 years with a very loyal fan base, as their music continues to stand the test of time.
