The Darkness Reveal New Drummer Rufus Taylor

The show must go on! The Darkness moved quickly to fill the void left by the exit of drummer Emily Dolan Davies and are currently touring with Rufus Taylor taking over behind the kit.

In an interview with Manchester's 106.1 Real Radio XS host Jon Kirkman in the U.K. (as heard in the player below), guitarist Dan Hawkins revealed, "The 'drummist' will be known as Rufus Taylor, son of Roger Taylor." And yes, the Roger Taylor he speaks of is the musician who has played with Queen for years.

Hawkins says it was a rather whirlwind journey finding Taylor and getting him up to speed in time for touring after Davies exited the group late last month. "I mean, to give you an idea of the chaos … Rufus, who came very highly recommended from someone I knew and if they recommended somebody that guy would be great ... he just happened to be in Australia at the time when we needed to get someone in," recalls Hawkins. "So he stepped off a plane at 6AM in the morning, went straight to rehearsal with us where we ran through things a couple of times, the set that we were playing that night. And then we went straight to the place and did a gig. Talk about the seat of your pants."

Taylor made his debut at a Gibson-backed release party in London on April 24. The group is ramping up to the June 1 release of their latest album, Last of Our Kind. The disc has already generated the single "Barbarian." That video made an impressive five-week run at No. 1 on Loudwire's Battle Royale Video Countdown and was retired to the Hall of Fame. Now they're promoting a second single and video called "Open Fire."
