Tonight's Billboard Music Awards has mostly been a celebration of young artists like Taylor Swift and One Direction, but it was Hall of Fame rockers Van Halen who kicked off the night with a powerful performance of 'Panama.'

A svelte David Lee Roth shimmied throughout the song, giving a solid vocal performance that improved greatly upon his the band's recent appearances on 'Jimmy Kimmel' and 'Ellen.' The veteran rocker also made a sexually suggestive remark about hip-hop star Nicki Minaj in the middle of the tune. Eddie Van Halen once again proved why he is one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time, not missing a note along the way. And the rhythm section of Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen rocked it out in front of the A-list audience.

The performance should excite Van Halen fans, as the band is gearing up for a North American tour that kicks off July 5 in Seattle. Click here for a full list of dates.
